How I got started – my essential oils journey this far

I could tell you a fairytale story about wanting to be more natural in my approaches to treating my ailments, and finding essential oils, but to be honest, it was not like that for me. Many of you may be the same.
Essential Oils smelt nice, I had an oil burner and would light a tealight candle, put a few drops of oil in some water and enjoy the pleasant way that made my house smell. I owned Lavender to calm me, Tea tree to refresh my house and treat any pimple flare ups, and Lemon cause it was great at removing stickers, stains and who doesn’t love the smell of a citrus!
I was buying these oils wherever I could find them cheapest, be that the supermarket, $2 store and occasionally online. I had my favourite places of course (supermarket for the tea tree, you know the brand in the bright yellow box).
Slowly I started to use oils for a bit more, ordering a Sinus Clear Blend from one of the online brands, hoping it will help my allergy nose (those who know me know what I am talking about).
In February 2019, I was watching Instagram stories (as you do), and one of the accounts I followed was discussing Doterra. They mentioned how you could sign up, get discounted oils and sell them too (I know MLM (Multi Level Marketing) coming for you). However, I decided to open a Doterra Wholesale Account just to get discounts on a brand that claims not only purity in their oils, but also that they co-impact source the raw materials for the oils. Co-impact sourcing in a nutshell just means that they that seek out supplier partnerships in areas where the plants thrive the most with the growers already in this area. This creates more sustainable jobs, and reliable income in areas that have long been underdeveloped and extorted.
Now, I didn’t just decide to jump on the bandwagon immediately. I did a whole bunch of research, compared prices and sourcing, purity and other claims on other subscription websites, and made an educated decision from doing my own research.
Doterra and the team of women that it connected me too helped me learn so much in the first year. I learnt some great recipes, tips and trick on how to incorporate oils into your everyday life, and also about how awful perfume can be for your hormonal balance (I will post a blog on this another day).
I loved oils that helped my daily anxiety ramp down in anyway, or helped with my allergies. So my collection slowly grew, and so did my knowledge. I always research the suggestions that this amazing team made, and only used them if I thought they would be safe for me. For example, Doterra, particularly in the states, suggest adding drops of essential oils to your water and drinking it. Or popping a blend of oils in a vegetable cap (the outside of pills) and ingesting it that way. Very quickly I saw the benefits of doing my own research, and only using the oils in ways that felt right for me.
Now, 4 years on I have a large collection of oils at both my workplace and home (thank you BOGO offers), have access to roll on oils to treat a number of issues, or to use as purefume. My cleaning products for washing up, laundry and general household cleaning are all from one of the few brands that I purchase off. The first thing I reach for when I have an upset stomach is my KIDS Tamer, allergies playing up its Manuka, or had a particularly strenuous day at work and feel like a hot mess, any of my many rollons have been used as a deodorant.
In 2023, I decided to register myself for Young Living, as they had ranges of products that Doterra didn’t sell, and the benefits that they presented could not be missed (Ning Xia anyone…). This has led me again to some amazing connections that have had their own journeys into using essential oils, and some even have qualifications in many areas of traditional healing (such as nutritionist, etc) that provide me with invaluable insights and multitudes of research paths to send me down rabbit holes again.

Many of my friends and family call me a hippie, cause I am so in to my oils, crystals, and alternative remedies and healing events. But I do have to say, except for catching Influenza A in 2023, I have not been deathly ill in a LONG time, barring a migraine or three, and I attribute that largely to the way my addiction (there I said it) to essential oils have helped me remove chemicals in my everyday life.
I have shared this interest with others, and had a few of my friends sign up for their own accounts. Yeh ok, it is a MLM, but you will not get messages from me anytime there is a deal (unless I know you are addicted to that oil and might wanna stock up (ClaryCalm hey ladies)), you could put one purchase in a year and I am NEVER going to hassle you. OR you could live your money making dreams and create a oil business that pays off all your bills allowing you to use your everyday job pay for fun experiences like holidays, new cars and the like. The choice is yours. If you do want to sign up, you will get a welcome pack from me, this was my first one, so many years ago!

In June 2023, just before i decided to join up with Young Living, i decided that i wanted to share my knowledge and love for all of this with as many people as i could. If it is only my friends and family that see it, ok, cool. If it gets out there to everyone with any interest, how amazing could that be. Hence the idea for creating Papillon Huiles was started. I created an email, i started this website, and i started research what i could and couldn't put on it.
I know blogs may be considered past their prime, but what a great way to put all my knowledge somewhere, in my voice, with my research links, or shopping links, so that one person starting out on their own journey can have a starting point, information or a friendly ear to listen or voice to help.
Papillon Huiles (french) - Butterfly Oils (English) *only a rough translationIf this interests you as well, feel free to reach out. There are always amazing deals to be had on both of the brands I have mentioned above. I would love to chat with anyone who wants to learn more.
OR if you just want to ask questions and listen to me babble on about information I have learnt just to have some extra knowledge in your head too, we can also chat (haha).
Any ideas for future blog posts, reach out and suggest some. They wont but done immediately, but I will definitely take suggestions and gather the knowledge for you (and others) should it be something that also piques my curiosity.
